There's a few different ways to play this game online these days.
You can either play the PS2 and Xbox versions online via private servers, or play the Wii version of the game through the Dolphin emulator's built in netplay features.
Dolphin has better netcode but the Wii version of the game has balance and mechanical changes that might not be to purist tastes.
